We were recently invited by friends to go check out a fantastic pizzeria they had found, Coney Island Pizza, in Riverdale. They started off as a mobile wood fired business called Coney Island Catering, serving pizzas at events and festivals, and were so popular that they decided to open up a restaurant.
They make a wide variety of creative pizzas, all cooked in a 900 degree wood-fired oven. We had the “3 P Pie”, with pesto, pistachios, and pecorino, while our friends had the Margherita pie. The ingredients were very fresh, and the crust was the best we’ve had.
They also make some great flatbread sandwiches, wood-fired meatballs, and much more. Desserts are made on-site. Try the cannolis! They also feature wines from the local Ventimiglia Winery.
Right off of Exit 53 on Route 297, Coney Island Pizza is well worth the trip!
